1. Who is Oovie?

Oovie is part of the Hoyts Group of companies and is Australia’s largest network of DVD rental machines, currently operating over 350 machines. Oovie has already rented more than 1.5 Million DVDs to happy customers. You can find oovie machines in supermarkets and other super convenient sites across NSW, VIC, QLD, ACT, TAS and soon nationwide.

You’ll find an Oovie at a supermarket or shopping centre near you. If you don’t have a local oovie machine then email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and we’ll let your local store know you want one.

2. How do I use Oovie?

Oovie is super-easy to use. First of all, find out where your nearest oovie machine is.

To rent a movie, just pick the one you want to see from the on-screen menu. Hit the RENT button, swipe your credit or visa debit card, and out pops your DVD.

To return a movie, just pop your DVD into the dispenser slot and the screen will let you know it’s been accepted.

You can also now make sure your movie is there by reserving it online before you pop out to the shops.

3. Do I need to be a member?

No. We know you don’t need the hassle of yet another card, joining fee or monthly payment plan. As long as you’re over 18 years old and have a valid credit or visa/mastercard debit card, you can use any Oovie machine.

4. How many movies does an Oovie machine hold?

Each indoor Oovie machine has between 300 & 400 of the latest DVDs around. Our outdoor machines hold 500! We keep it fresh by adding new releases every week.

5. How can I pay for my movie?

We’ll accept your Visa, MasterCard, Diners or Amex – credit card or any debit cards with the Visa or Mastercard logo are fine. We just can’t take cash or Eftpos.

Don't panic if you get a new or updated expiry date on your credit card! Simply swipe your new card at any of our machines & all your details will be automatically updated. Yeah!

6. Are there weekly movies?

No, but you can keep your DVD for as long as you want for $2.99* per night. After 14 days, it’s yours to keep forever. Think of it as a rent-to-own plan if you really love the movie.

*Prices may vary from machine to machine.

7. What if I keep the movie for more than one night?

Did you fall asleep half way through, or get distracted by something else? Don’t worry, you can keep it for as many days as you like. Your DVD rental is just $2.99* per night, until 9pm the next night.

If you don’t return the DVD after 14 days, your card will be charged the 14-day total of $36. And then it’s yours to keep - no questions asked. What video store would do that?

And as long as you return the movie by 9pm the day after you borrow it, you’ll only be charged $2.99*. Too Easy.

*Prices may vary from machine to machine.

8. What if I never return the movie?

Are you absolutely ga-ga for that movie? Or did your dog eat it? Either way, you’ll never be charged more than $36.00. And then it’s yours to keep.

9. Can I return my DVD to any other Oovie machine?

Yes, you can return your DVDs to any Oovie machine located around Australia. You can Rent Anywhere and Return Anywhere. Too Easy.

10. What if the DVD doesn’t work?

If your DVD is damaged or faulty, or simply doesn’t play, call our oovie hotline on 1300 656 893, or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Once you report a problem, we can prevent the faulty DVD from being rented again, and remove it from the machine for inspection and repair. And of course you’ll get your money back or another free rental Promo Code.

11. What if the machine won’t take my DVD back?

The cool technology that makes Oovie work includes a wireless tag stuck on top of the disc. If this tag is tampered with, the tag is damaged and the machine will reject the disk.

Just call customer service on 1300 656 893 for help or to report any problems.

12. What if my DVD is due back on a day when the store is closed?

We think it would be pretty unfair to charge you for a night’s rental just because you can’t return it because the Supermarket is closed. So we won’t. That includes public holidays like Christmas and Easter Sunday. Just make sure you return it the next day the store is open. We will extend your rentals for the day that the store is closed on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Christmas Day.

13. Why are your new release movies so much cheaper?

We don’t have to pay for a big fancy store, a carpark or staff. So you can save money on your movie rentals.

14. Is my payment information secure?

Absolutely. The Oovie machine encrypts your credit card details. Paypal Secure Payments Gateway sends the information to your bank and back to our ANZ account. That information won’t go anywhere else. There are no credit card details stored on the machine and all transactions and data are secured to the highest international standards required by the credit card companies.

15. Why does a Purchase Authorisation appear on my Bank Statement when I've used a Free DVD Promo Code??

Great question! When you swipe your credit card Oovie request an authorisation from your Bank so that we know that you're using a valid credit card.

Rest assured this will not convert to an actual charge & will be removed from your transaction statement by your Bank.

Each bank will differ in the amount of time it takes to remove the authorisation. Be sure to give them a call if you have any questions about their authorisation process.

16. Why do you want my email address?

We use your email as a way to identify you as a customer in case you want to reserve online or have any customer service requirements.

We’ll email you with a receipt for your transactions and we’ll even include a Promo Code for a 'Rent One Get One' (2-for-1) rental in every receipt email.

Every now and then, when we’re feeling especially generous, we’ll send you some special promo codes. Which means more free or discounted movies for you and your friends to enjoy. And if you’ve signed up for Free Oovie Wednesdays then of course you’ll get your Wednesday Promo Code ever week.

We’ll also send you a weekly oovie update with details of new and upcoming DVD releases – which will save you from that annoying and sometimes heated ‘what shall we watch tonight?’ debate. You can opt out of the update if you like - no problem.

And because we hate spam as much as you do, we’ll never give your email address to anyone else. Check our Privacy Policy for more information on how we protect you.

17. How many movies can I rent in one go?

When you rent with us for the first time, you can choose two movies. After that, you can rent four movies at a time. And if you think you need more than four movies in one night, perhaps you should think about getting some sleep.

18. How do I get free movies?

We let you rent movies on the 1st Wednesday of the Month for free. Are we crazy? Probably. The 1st Wednesday of every Month - any one movie - absolutely free. How good is that? Register for your Free Wed Promo Code now! Plus everytime you rent an Oovie DVD (not in conjunction with any promotional offer) we'll send you a promo code in your receipt that lets you 'Rent One & Get One Free!'. Ooh Yeah!
